String Orchestra provides an opportunity to explore and perform a wide variety of excellent string music. In addition to its regular concerts, the orchestra performs at festival each year.Chamber Orchestra represents the school's premier string players. This ensemble requires an incredible amount of dedication and performs extraordinary literature from the standard repertoire, as well as more recent works. In addition to its regular concerts, the orchestra performs at many festivals each year and is the host of the MVHS Orchestra Festival each fall. They have performed with esteemed conductor and violist, Dr. Russell Guyver as well as cellist, Eric Moore.

Music History and Theory
Mr. Peter Toews has been the Director of Bands and Orchestras at MVHS since the school opened in August, 2000. He also teaches Music History, Music Theory, AP Music Theory, and piano. Mr. Toews holds a Bachelor's Degree in K-12 Music Education and a Master's Degree in Conducting from the University of Northern Colorado, where he served as a graduate teaching assistant . While at UNC, Mr. Toews was awarded the Departmental Scholar Award, and was selected for membership in Pi Kappa Lambda (the National Music Honor Society). He is an active member of ASTA, CBA, CMEA, NAfME, and Phi Beta Mu. He has held positions on the governing boards for both the Colorado All-State Band and All-State Orchestra. Mr. Toews was selected as the 2002-2003 Teacher of the Year at Mountain View High School, and the 2013-2014 Thompson Education Foundation Secondary Teacher of the Year. In 2013, he was awarded a citation for his work in the field of music education by the National Band Association. He continues to perform and serve as a clinician on a regular basis while living in Greeley with his wife, Shanna, and their twins, Alyson and Michael.
